Goals – Keeping Focused and On Track
Having set your goals is one thing but keeping focused and on track is quite another thing altogether. If you are not working with a coach or extremely motivated to achieve your goal on time it is easy to lets things slip.
Often when we set goals we are inspired and motivate, keen to achieve whatever it is we want. However it is easy to sit back and expect things to happen, before you know it often time has flown by and little progress has been made. It’s not that we don’t want the goal .. just that it is not as motivating when having set a goal then you have to actually take action to make it happen
Most goals require some form of physical engagement, whether it be to write a book, lose weight, run a marathon, change jobs. It takes a lot of thinking and effort to turn your dream goal into a reality and it is so easy to start making progress then become complacent or become side tracked only to find that time has slipped by and your not making the progress you had planned or have lapsed with the progress you have made.
How best to stay focused and on track:
- Write your goals down, make sure they are SMART goals and have a deadline.
- Next chunk down you goal into smaller, achievable steps – working on one at a time makes it less scary if it is a big goal.
- Chart your progress – it’s motivating to see what you are achieving as you go.
- Work with a Coach – or if that is not possible join a Coaching Group. Meet with other people who have goals they are working on will help you feel motivated as you help and support each other.

Coaching Cafe – October 2014 – Newcastle
This is one of the ‘Cafe’ style coaching sessions ran by Newcastle Performance Coaching Limited in the North East.
How many of us set goals at the beginning of the year? Many people decide to lose weight, end a relationship, change career, do more or less of something. But how many people actually succeed in achieving their goals?
In this interactive session we will look at the our Goals for 2014, see how much progress we have made to acheive them, what learnings we have taken from the progress we have made and look at how else we can work on those goals that we are struggling to acheive.
Life coaching can bring amazing results to the clients who wish to acheive Personal and Professional success – but good coaching comes at a cost. These ‘Cafe’ sessions are a great way of accessing affordable coaching whilst being supported and motivated not just by the Coaches but also by fellow delegates.
Refreshments provided – please bring a notebook and pen.

Are you locked inside in your Shack?
In this months Spirituality Cafe we are looking at … a book – The Shack – a New York Times bestseller – the story of a man lifted from the depths of despair through his life-altering encounter with God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit
The Shack
If nothing else it is interesting and very thought provoking.
Listen to it (all 8 and a 1/2 hours) for free on YouTube read by the author.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h1sgn4VXoyM
Here’s some information from Amazon about the book:
Mackenzie Allen Philips’ youngest daughter, Missy, has been abducted during a family vacation and evidence that she may have been brutally murdered is found in an abandoned shack deep in the Oregon wilderness. Four years later, still trapped in his great sadness, Mack receives a suspicious note, apparently from God, inviting him back to that shack.
Against his better judgement he arrives at the shack on a wintery afternoon and faces up to his darkest nightmare. What he finds there will change Mack’s world forever.
In a world where religion seems to grow increasingly irrelevant, THE SHACK wrestles with the timeless question, ‘Where is God in a world so filled with unspeakable pain?’ The answers Mack gets will astound you and perhaps transform you as much as it did him. You’ll want everyone you know to read this book!
JOINT EVENT WITH … THE PROFESSIONAL PEOPLE NORTH EAST meetup group
Here’s some reviews:
Review’Brilliant! One of the most faith-enhancing books I have ever read’ (Bear Grylls)
‘Clearly the book is speaking loud and clear to a lot of people’ (The Independent)
Bunyanesque … bold, imaginative, humane and funny. (Church Times)
This book has the potential to do for our generation what John Bunyan‘s Pilgrim’s Progress did for his. It’s that good! (Eugene Peterson)
‘This is the most heart-warming, inspirational story I have read in decades. If you only read one book in the next year….read THE SHACK’ (J.John)
‘By far the most captivating, deliciously written and theologically refreshing page turner of a novel I have ever read.’ (Gerald Coates, Pioneer)
‘Dangerous, dangerous way to do off-the-hook theology, I love it! It’s not just what happens when a theologian becomes storyteller: this is what happens when a survivor who has experienced God decides to tell a story. This should be required reading in spirituality/theodicy classes everywhere. The Shack will quickly become a modern classic, and it will inspire imitators. But very few will match the competence of this work.’ (Siku)
THE SHACK is the most absorbing work of fiction I’ve read in many years. My wife and I laughed, cried and repented of our own lack of faith along the way. THE SHACK will leave you craving for the presence of God. (Michael W. Smith, Recording Artist)
This story reads like a prayer – like the best kind of prayer, filled with sweat and wonder and transparency and surprise. If you read one work of fiction this year, let this be it. (Mike Morrell, Zoecarnate.com)
Reading THE SHACK during a very difficult transition in my life, this story has blown the door wide open to my soul. (Wynonna Judd, Recording Artist)

Goals Goals Goals
The secret to success often rests with setting great goals … but why should we set goals?
We spend so much of time thinking about what is happening in our life – good and bad – and often wanting things to be changed but not sure what we want instead. Whatever aspect of our lives it is (family / friendships / career / wellbeing / money etc) there is something that we would want to change.
So how does change start? Well a good place is in setting goals!
There are many benefits of goal setting.
Taking Control
Goals are like having an in-built Sat Nav – your goals will take to in a direction you have chosen and for which you want to go. Setting goals is about articulating your vision (whether in words, pictures, symbols or a combination of). Your vision will take you on a path to reality and when you have achieved the goal, you improve your life and become a better version of yourself – your confidence and self esteem will increase as you appreciate and acknowledge your achievements.
Focusing on the important things
When you set goals you are sorting out your priorities – deciding what is most important to you and what can wait. By focusing your time and efforts on what you want to achieve you are more likely to achieve your goals.
You will make reasoned decisions
Once your Goals have been identified when opportunties come along you are more likely to make the right decisions in line with your goals and medium / long term plans.
You are more likely to achieve you goal sooner
If you remain focused on your goals and keep them in mind. You will have a focused approach to life and are more likely to concentrate your time, finances and energy with less likelihood in being distracted.
Be confident, be enthusiastic
When you set goals they need to be specific so you can measure your progress. As you near your goal and monitor your profess this will improve your confidence, keep you motivated and enthusiastic about achieving the final stage which marks your success.
Making progress
Each time you achieved one goal, you will want to set more goals in the knowledge you can get there. Subsequent goals are often harder to achieve and require more effort. As you have achieved some goals there is no reason why you cannot go on to bigger and better things with higher goals.
You are closer to success
Every step you take towards your goals is a step nearer to success.
Remember to reward your efforts along the way.
How to set goals
This is easy. Setting goals that motivate and inspire you to achieve is a tad harder. Come along to our Coaching Cafe Goals workshop – set some compelling goals and start on your journey to success.
In the Coaching Club workshop I will take you through the art of setting goals, identify which goals are key to your personal success right now.
Personal Development Workshops 2014
I have spent some time recently working on the 2014 calendar for the PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT CIRCLE NORTH EAST and am pleased to say it is pretty much finalised.
We have 3 presenters presenting monthly workshops:
- Coaching Cafe – Aly, Newcastle Performance Coaching, weekly 1pm-3pm January – February then monthly
- Personal Development Cafe – Caroline Malloy – monthly on a Saturday 2pm – 4pm
- NLP Cafe in Gateshead – Jay Arnott – monthly on a Saturday 10am – 12 noon
- Law of Attraction Cafe – Caroline Cogdon – monthly on a Saturday 10am – 12 noon
- Teachings of Abraham – Aly, Newcastle Performance Coaching, monthly (evening)
- Spirituality Cafe – Aly, Newcastle Performance Coaching, monthly (evening)
I’m running a 7 week group coaching course starting in January and February, as well as a few one-off workshops (confidence, self-esteem, stress management etc) and will deliver the above if for any reason the usual presenter is unavailable.
For the exact dates and locations of meetings please check our website. http://www.meetup.com/Personal-Development-Circle-North-East
I do have some places left for ‘guest workshops’. If you are interested in presenting a workshop for the PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT CIRCLE NORTH EAST please get in touch and with details of your website, the workshop and some information about yourself. Please note any guest presentations should not conflict with any of the other presenters above. Priority to presenting to the group is always given to PAID PDCNE members.
We have the Christmas stress-buster night on Saturday 7 December 2013 if you are interested in presenting to the Personal Development Circle North East then come along and deliver a 15 minute presentation. Coming along to this event is an ideal opportunity for you to meet me, the other members of the group and discuss future workshops.
Once I have finalised the PDCNE calendar for 2014 in mid December I will not be adding any new presentations/workshops until the summer except for our regular presenters and a couple of people I’m in the process of securing dates with.
In addition to the Personal Development Circle North East I also run 2 other meetup groups – PARENTS NORTH EAST and PROFESSIONAL PEOPLE NORTH EAST. The opportunity to present in workshops applies to ALL 3 groups I run.
Not everyone in the group is interested in presenting which is great, all members contribute to the group whether it’s at a social, by attending, supporting or help promoting events or getting involved in presenting.
In order to be successful the groups rely upon members being active so join us, take time to look around the websites and book into anything that appeals (someone has to be the first to RSVP!!) you can always change your mind nearer the time.

Getting back on track.
Ever felt that you are running around in circles, no clear vision of where you are going or how you will get there? Were you wasting all your energy? Did you get annoyed with yourself? Start throwing your toys out the pram with frustration? Whether it is your personal life or running your business the emotions can be very similar.
Running your business, especially in the early days, can see you using up all your spare cash and resources, drain your mental energy, and run away with your time.
It is easy to get absorbed in what is going wrong with the situation, blame others, run around aimlessly for anything and everything that may help. The thing is that we only know so much and the answers may be outside our consciousness although we may well have the resources required to resolve the situation we are in.
A great resource is to work with a coach who will help you identify what the key challenges are, what resources you may have that have not been utilised yet, and prepare an action plan to get you working smarter to resolve matters. Working with a coach is like having a compass showing you the way to your destination. Your coach will keep you focused and on track. If you get stuck then help is at hand to take stock and reassess the situation to identify the next key steps to get you where you want to be either by the original route you chose or by identifying an alternative route.
In life as in business there are so many decision to make, options to cosider, distractions on our time and focus. Having said that you can be successful, just find your way with the help and support of a coach.
Contact Newcastle Performance Coaching to book your coaching session in which we will work together to identify the key strategies which will kick you off on your path to personal or business success. The investment for the first session is only £47 with no obligation to take further sessions. Contact me for further information.
