Posted on

Professional People North East are joining up with the Personal Development Circle North East and other meetup groups in the North East for their monthly pub night at the Fox and Hounds in Newcastle this week.  Typically we have 15-30 people pop along and have something to eat and drink.  It’s very relaxed and informal – so if you are at a loose end why not come along and join us.

Professional People North East
Professional People North East

Professional People North East is a social group for single professionals in the North East who first and foremost want to build friendships and socialise – meeting someone special for some would be a bonus.

Not all single 40+ people want to hit the dating sites or have a friend, colleague or family member play matchmaker for them. So this group is idea for anyone who would like to get out a bit more, build friendships, socialise with other single professionals.

Great thing is that it’s so cheap to join – £10 a year and if you go to our events then you buy your own food, drinks and tickets so you have control of what you spend and can keep within your financial budget.

What do we do? We are an events website that run pub meals, coffee, cinema, friendship group, restaurants in the North East. Members log in – find out what events are on and if they want to go they click the RSVP button to let other members know they will be going – simple!!!

Where do we meet? Newcastle and Gateshead mainly however any member can add a social event to our calendar so if you are in Sunderland, Durham, Tyne Valley, Northumberland that’s fine – just pop up an event on our website (its free to add you own things) at your local pub, coffee shop or maybe a walk somewhere nice, dancing lessons, or whatever interests you. See who comes along and maybe you will be a new friend or 10.

Are you locked inside in your Shack?

Posted on

In this months Spirituality Cafe we are looking at … a book – The Shack – a New York Times bestseller – the story of a man lifted from the depths of despair through his life-altering encounter with God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit

The Shack

The Shack
The Shack (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

If nothing else it is interesting and very thought provoking.

Listen to it (all 8 and a 1/2 hours) for free on YouTube read by the author.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h1sgn4VXoyM

Here’s some information from Amazon about the book:

Mackenzie Allen Philips’ youngest daughter, Missy, has been abducted during a family vacation and evidence that she may have been brutally murdered is found in an abandoned shack deep in the Oregon wilderness. Four years later, still trapped in his great sadness, Mack receives a suspicious note, apparently from God, inviting him back to that shack.

Against his better judgement he arrives at the shack on a wintery afternoon and faces up to his darkest nightmare. What he finds there will change Mack’s world forever.

In a world where religion seems to grow increasingly irrelevant, THE SHACK wrestles with the timeless question, ‘Where is God in a world so filled with unspeakable pain?’ The answers Mack gets will astound you and perhaps transform you as much as it did him. You’ll want everyone you know to read this book!

JOINT EVENT WITH … THE PROFESSIONAL PEOPLE NORTH EAST meetup group

Here’s some reviews:

Review’Brilliant! One of the most faith-enhancing books I have ever read’ (Bear Grylls)

‘Clearly the book is speaking loud and clear to a lot of people’ (The Independent)

Bunyanesque … bold, imaginative, humane and funny. (Church Times)

This book has the potential to do for our generation what John Bunyan‘s Pilgrim’s Progress did for his. It’s that good! (Eugene Peterson)

‘This is the most heart-warming, inspirational story I have read in decades. If you only read one book in the next year….read THE SHACK’ (J.John)

‘By far the most captivating, deliciously written and theologically refreshing page turner of a novel I have ever read.’ (Gerald Coates, Pioneer)

‘Dangerous, dangerous way to do off-the-hook theology, I love it! It’s not just what happens when a theologian becomes storyteller: this is what happens when a survivor who has experienced God decides to tell a story. This should be required reading in spirituality/theodicy classes everywhere. The Shack will quickly become a modern classic, and it will inspire imitators. But very few will match the competence of this work.’ (Siku)

THE SHACK is the most absorbing work of fiction I’ve read in many years. My wife and I laughed, cried and repented of our own lack of faith along the way. THE SHACK will leave you craving for the presence of God. (Michael W. Smith, Recording Artist)

This story reads like a prayer – like the best kind of prayer, filled with sweat and wonder and transparency and surprise. If you read one work of fiction this year, let this be it. (Mike Morrell, Zoecarnate.com)

Reading THE SHACK during a very difficult transition in my life, this story has blown the door wide open to my soul. (Wynonna Judd, Recording Artist)

Personal Development meeting in Durham

Monthly Personal Development Cafe starting March 2014

The Personal Development Cafe is both for those people new to personal development and for those already exploring coaching and neuro linguistic programing (nlp). The café sessions are designed to be informative, stimulating and compliment other Personal Development Circle North East’ workshops.

Personal Development Circle North East
Personal Development Circle North East

“If I have the belief that I can do it, I shall surely acquire the capacity to do it even if I may not have it at the beginning.” Gandhi

As a member of the Personal Development Cafe part you will:

– Discover the benefits of using personal development techniques
– Learn tools for confidence, motivation & the power of your mind
– Gain an understanding of the science and behind personal development
– Feel motivated and supported by the group
– Progress to become the person you want to become

Café sessions are monthly and run for 2 hours. In a relaxed and informal setting the sessions will start with a coffee followed by “some food for thought” – an informative and stimulating talk. Then it’s time for “café chatter” to open up discussion. We finish with some “clearing up” and self-reflection which is for your eyes only.

You are welcome to “drop in” on individual café sessions, but you may find benefit from regular attendance.

No matter what your goals and dreams may be or at what level you are to achieving them. With consistent motivation, a deeper understanding of the power of your mind, good clear teaching, and a friendly group of people behind you, you will gain a deeper understanding and belief in yourself from which change will naturally develop.

You can choose from our Café menu over the following dates

March  8th    Start thinking right

Start right thinking

There’s a battle going on in our minds, a daily conversation with ourselves which if it’s going well, can make our day and if it not well “I might as well not even bother !!!!” (does this sound familiar?)

The true fact is that our bodies and behaviours are affected by the way we think. We think in patterns that develop habits, our brain remembers these habits and like a well-worn path, they are stored in the neurology of the brain.

More often than not we talk down to ourselves, talk ourselves out of things and limit our opportunities before that have even entered the room.  When was the last time you told yourself how amazing you are?

The good news is that our brain can learn a new path, and the more often we choose a better path the more worn it becomes until it becomes a new path of better thinking.

So in this session we are going to explore a little bit about how the brain works, the physical effects of both positive and negative self-talk and write ourselves some affirmations to take home, so we can start the day on the right path.
