Personal Development Circle North East
Many people have goals (whether or not they call them goals), thing they want to achieve in their life for example relationships, work, family or business.
A huge proportion of those people will not achieve their goals for many reasons, maybe their situation changes, perhaps the goal is not right for them … or there are surmountable obstacles in the way that stop people in their tracks.
So why do people not achieve their goal if the obstacle can be overcome? Well sometimes the goal is not right for them and they know it – or the fear of achieving their goal itself can be scary.
- Losing a significant amount of weight and becoming more attractive to others can be scary for some people with low self esteem.
- Moving on after a relationship – starting to date again, worrying that the next relationship will end for similar reasons, e.g. cheating, violence, debts etc
- Working in a job that makes you unhappy – but worried to leave incase you don’t get another job – or fear of taking another job and it not working out.
- Business – setting up on your own and finding that you can’t get clients or sell your products
There are many situations where fear can hold us back but what can we do about it? Firstly acknowledge the fear then take action – books, coaching groups and 1:1 coaching are all great methods that can help you overcome your fears and help you move forward in life and in business.
My tips is:
- Acknowledge the Fear – what exactly are you scared of
- Rate it 1-10 (10 being really scary)
- How ‘real’ is the fear?
- Explore ways you can overcome the fear
- Take Action
- Celebrate you Success at overcoming your Fear.
There are some great books on overing coming fear and self doubt.
Susan Jeffers book ‘Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway’ is our Personal Development Book Club title this month (If you are interested – contact us or book your place on Eventbrite)
We also run regular workshops to help you deal with ‘Fear and Self Doubt’ – see Eventbrite for the upcoming sessions.

Having set your goals is one thing but keeping focused and on track is quite another thing altogether. If you are not working with a coach or extremely motivated to achieve your goal on time it is easy to lets things slip.
Often when we set goals we are inspired and motivate, keen to achieve whatever it is we want. However it is easy to sit back and expect things to happen, before you know it often time has flown by and little progress has been made. It’s not that we don’t want the goal .. just that it is not as motivating when having set a goal then you have to actually take action to make it happen
Most goals require some form of physical engagement, whether it be to write a book, lose weight, run a marathon, change jobs. It takes a lot of thinking and effort to turn your dream goal into a reality and it is so easy to start making progress then become complacent or become side tracked only to find that time has slipped by and your not making the progress you had planned or have lapsed with the progress you have made.
How best to stay focused and on track:
- Write your goals down, make sure they are SMART goals and have a deadline.
- Next chunk down you goal into smaller, achievable steps – working on one at a time makes it less scary if it is a big goal.
- Chart your progress – it’s motivating to see what you are achieving as you go.
- Work with a Coach – or if that is not possible join a Coaching Group. Meet with other people who have goals they are working on will help you feel motivated as you help and support each other.
If you are interested in our Coaching Groups you will find our sessions listed on Eventbrite
We also run GOALS sessions for people who would like to check in with a coach on a regular basis to keep themselves motivated and on track . https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/got-goals-keeping-focused-and-on-track-tickets-15899401538
Each month we will discuss a coaching, spiritual or personal development book. … Facilitated discussion NOT a debate … So many people buy these great best selling books then put them on the book shelf where they are left – unread. Instead you could read the book then join one of our sessions where we discuss the book, try some of the exercises and reflect on how it can help us deal with our own situation.
£5 Tea/coffee and biscuits/nibbles are provided.
In each months Book Discussion we will be looking at a different personal development best selling book.
Most of these titles are available on audiobook and may be free to listen to on YouTube

Many of us set dating or relationship goals at the beginning of the year. But how many people actually succeed in achieving their goals? How many end up dating the same/wrong type of man/woman and experiencing the same relationship hiccups? .. Then end up still since as we approach the next New Year!
in this 8 week program we
- look at ourselves … Eek!
- Decide at what we want from a relationship
- Explore where WE went wrong in previous relationships
- Understand how our values, beliefs and internal rules are sabotaging our progress and learn how to make them work for us instead of holding us back.

Exploring our Values and how that affects our motivation
Last week for those who came to the session on Personality Types, we explored both our own type preferences and touched on identifying some of our values.
This week we are going to take the theme of Values and link them to MOTIVATION
We will be asking questions like
“Why do I get so excited about some things and not others?”
“How can I get more motivated to do the things I should do, but do not really want to?”
“How can I increase the motivation I have got, so I can achieve more “
“Where the heck did my Mojo go?”
As usual we will use discussion, learning and exercises to deepen our understanding of ourselves, but this week I will be introducing some NLP techniques, which will be optional.
By the end of the workshop you will understand and recognise how your values affect your passions and, and be able to increase your motivation not only to do the things you want to do with more energy, but also the tasks that you have to do.
See you there, Caroline
The Personal Development Cafe is both for those people new to personal development and for those already exploring coaching and neuro linguistic programing (nlp). The café sessions are designed to be informative, stimulating and compliment other Personal Development Circle North East’ workshops.
“If I have the belief that I can do it, I shall surely acquire the capacity to do it even if I may not have it at the beginning.” Gandhi

No matter what your goals and dreams may be or at what level you are to achieving them.
