Is Fear Holding You Back?

Posted on

Many people have goals (whether or not they call them goals), thing they want to achieve in their life for example relationships, work, family or business.

A huge proportion of those people will not achieve their goals for many reasons, maybe their situation changes, perhaps the goal is not right for them … or there are surmountable obstacles in the way that stop people in their tracks.

So why do people not achieve their goal if the obstacle can be overcome?  Well sometimes the goal is not right for them and they know it – or the fear of achieving their goal itself can be scary.

For example

  1. Losing a significant amount of weight and becoming more attractive to others can be scary for some people with low self esteem.
  2. Moving on after a relationship – starting to date again, worrying that the next relationship will end for similar reasons, e.g. cheating, violence, debts etc
  3. Working in a job that makes you unhappy – but worried to leave incase you don’t get another job – or fear of taking another job and it not working out.
  4. Business – setting up on your own and finding that you can’t get clients or sell your products

There are many situations where fear can hold us back but what can we do about it? Firstly acknowledge the fear then take action – books, coaching groups and 1:1 coaching are all great methods that can help you overcome your fears and help you move forward in life and in business.

My tips is:

  • Acknowledge the Fear – what exactly are you scared of
  • Rate it 1-10 (10 being really scary)
  • How ‘real’ is the fear?
  • Explore ways you can overcome the fear
  • Take Action
  • Celebrate you Success at overcoming your Fear.

There are some great books on overing coming fear and self doubt.

Susan Jeffers book ‘Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway’ is our Personal Development Book Club title this month  (If you are interested – contact us or book your place on Eventbrite)

We also run regular workshops to help you deal with ‘Fear and Self Doubt’ – see Eventbrite for the upcoming sessions.

Goals – Keeping Focused and On Track

Posted on

Having set your goals is one thing but keeping focused and on track is quite another thing altogether.  If you are not working with a coach or extremely motivated to achieve your goal on time it is easy to lets things slip.

Often when we set goals we are inspired and motivate, keen to achieve whatever it is we want.  However it is easy to sit back and expect things to happen, before you know it often time has flown by and little progress has been made.  It’s not that we don’t want the goal .. just that it is not as motivating when having set a goal then you have to actually take action to make it happen

Most goals require some form of physical engagement, whether it be to write a book, lose weight, run a marathon, change jobs.  It takes a lot of thinking and effort to turn your dream goal into a reality and it is so easy to start making progress then become complacent or become side tracked only to find that time has slipped by and your not making the progress you had planned or have lapsed with the progress you have made.

How best to stay focused and on track:

  1. Write your goals down, make sure they are SMART goals and have a deadline.
  2. Next chunk down you goal into smaller, achievable steps – working on one at a time makes it less scary if it is a big goal.
  3. Chart your progress – it’s motivating to see what you are achieving as you go.
  4. Work with a Coach – or if that is not possible join a Coaching Group.  Meet with other people who have goals they are working on will help you feel motivated as you help and support each other.

If you are interested in our Coaching Groups you will find our sessions listed on Eventbrite

http://www.eventbrite.co.uk/o/newcastle-performance-coaching-limited-6295082261

We also run GOALS sessions for people who would like to check in with a coach on a regular basis to keep themselves motivated and on track . https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/got-goals-keeping-focused-and-on-track-tickets-15899401538

We are off for a bar meal in Gosforth tomorrow evening, if you are interested in joining us register on our website.

Professional People North East
Professional People North East

Who are Professional People North East ?  We were are a for single men and women over 40 in the North East who want to meet new people, socialise, make friends and enjoy life.

Professional People North East is all about our members, enjoying ourselves in a relaxed and comfortable environment whilst building friendships.

What do we do? Well we have regular events e.g.

  • Regular bar meal / drinks socials
  • a Saturday mornings coffee morning get togethers to kick start the weekend,
  • cinema, theatre, walks, discussions all coming soon

We are more than a monthly booze up group and whilst some events are pre-planned we often have ‘pop up’ events which are listed at short notice to keep numbers low not everyone wants to go out in large groups.  As this group is members led feel free to add your own events to the calendar.

Most of our dining events will be capped at 10 members – this is so that we have the opportunity to talk and can get to know each other better.

If you are looking for pub crawls and ‘piss-ups’ … sorry this is not the group for you!

We are an easy going, uncomplicated group of single people – if you are genuine, honest and be yourself you will fit in well with the membership.

If you want to make friends and improve your social life, or just try something different then join us and get involved.

We will be having lots of new, varied and interesting events all over the North East on a regular basis.

………….

First and foremost the Professional People North East is a Social group.

We are based in the North East and our events are for members only though guests of members are very welcome to come along and join in.

We will hold most of our meetings in Newcastle or Durham though members are free to add other event in locations.

Professional People North East
Professional People North East

Whilst the group is for single people it is NOT a dating site.  There are plenty other sites on the internet for single people to join.  This is first and foremost a social group, where people can meet each other and build friendships, if you meet someone at one of our events that you connect with it is a bonus.

We have plenty of things going on enable our single members to meet each other at informal and relaxed events, either mingling in a pub, the cinema or theatre, over a coffee & conversation meeting or during dinner or at one of our ‘Dating Workshops’.

This is a very friendly relaxed group. We hope you sign up and join in.

If you like to arrange socials then perfect we are always looking for people to get creative with events and lead the way.

…..

We are not going to define ‘Professional’ but here are a few thoughts if you are unsure … if you receive a salary (past or present) from an employer or your own ventures … or maybe you went to Uni (not essential).

You don’t need to be a high flyer, your role within an organisation is irrelevant and if you’re retired or no longer working in the organisation that is OK too.  If you consider yourself to be a ‘Professional’ that’s fine with us.

…..

Single means that you are not married, living-with or in a relationship with someone.

Single includes separated – it does NOT include any of the above or ‘open relationships!!

…..

Over 40 …  I’m not checking birth certificates so if you’re near enough (high 30’s) it’s fine.

Goals Goals Goals

Posted on

The secret to success often rests with setting great goals … but why should we set goals?

We spend so much of time thinking about what is happening in our life – good and bad – and often wanting things to be changed but not sure what we want instead.  Whatever aspect of our lives it is (family / friendships / career / wellbeing / money etc) there is something that we would want to change.

So how does change start?  Well a good place is in setting goals!

There are many benefits of goal setting.

Taking Control

Goals are like having an in-built Sat Nav – your goals will take to in a direction you have chosen and for which you want to go.  Setting goals is about articulating your vision (whether in words, pictures, symbols or a combination of).  Your vision will take you on a path to reality and when you have achieved the goal, you improve your life and become a better version of yourself – your confidence and self esteem will increase as you appreciate and acknowledge your achievements.

Focusing on the important things

When  you set goals you are sorting out your priorities – deciding what is most important to you and what can wait.  By focusing your time and efforts on what you want to achieve you are more likely to achieve your goals.

You will make reasoned decisions

Once your Goals have been identified when opportunties come along you are more likely to make the right decisions in line with your goals and medium / long term plans.

You are more likely to achieve you goal sooner

If you remain focused on your goals and keep them in mind.  You will have a focused approach to life and are more likely to concentrate your time, finances and energy with less likelihood in being distracted.

Be confident, be enthusiastic

When you set goals they need to be specific so you can measure your progress.  As you near your goal and monitor your profess this will improve your confidence, keep you motivated and enthusiastic about achieving the final stage which marks your success.

Making progress

Each time you achieved one goal, you will want to set more goals in the knowledge you can get there.  Subsequent goals are often harder to achieve and require more effort.  As you have achieved some goals there is no reason why you cannot go on to bigger and better things with higher goals.

You are closer to success

Every step you take towards your goals is a step nearer to success.

Remember to reward your efforts along the way.

How to set goals

This is easy.  Setting goals that motivate and inspire you to achieve is a tad harder.  Come along to our Coaching Cafe Goals workshop  – set some compelling goals and start on your journey to success.

In the Coaching Club workshop I will take you through the art of setting goals, identify which goals are key to your personal success right now.

Our North East UK Social Groups

Posted on

Joining a membership group has so many benefits to us which is why they are so successful.  Not only do they help us connect with other people with shared interests, build friendships they also can help create a sense of team spirit and pride.

We run several groups on the MeetUp platform – Parents North East, Professional People North East and the Personal Development Circle North East.

Our groups are designed to bring together people with shared interests socially as well as providing opportunities through workshops to develop skills to deal with challenges we face.

Whilst many membership or social groups refer to a group of people or a place where they may meet and often this revolves around an interest, occupation or activity, for example running, films, running, education, fitness, art and so on.

At Newcastle Performance Coaching we focus on bringing together people on a social level – improving confidence and self esteem, connecting with others with a shared interest, social networking to develop friendships.  We are a friendly relaxed group and have new members join our groups regularly.

Joining groups, clubs and societies is very popular and most of us like the sense of belonging . Isn’t it nice to belong to something?

We have 3 groups running in the North East

PARENTS NORTH EAST – Social events for parents and kids.

PROFESSIONAL PEOPLE NORTH EASTSocial group for single professional people.

PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT CIRCLE NORTH EAST –  personal development workshops, discussions, talks as well as regular socials.

The main reasons people choose to join social groups include:

  • a sense of belonging;
  • feelings of inclusion within groups result in higher levels of esteem.
  • joining social clubs, sports groups etc. are a great way to extend social connections;
  • building friendships with people they would otherwise not have met;
  • the opportunity to improve your social life,
  • spending regular time like-minded people who share their interests
  • learning something new or doing what you enjoy.

Joining groups is not enough – you need to come out to our meetings, connect with people and be pro-active.  We’re all very friendly and sociable so you will be very welcome at our meetings, events and workshops.

Are meetings are mainly in Newcastle, Sunderland, Northumberland and Durham and locations/venues vary.
