Personal Development Cafe – Exploring Values and Motivation
Monthly Personal Development Cafe starting March 2014
Exploring our Values and how that affects our motivation
Last week for those who came to the session on Personality Types, we explored both our own type preferences and touched on identifying some of our values.
This week we are going to take the theme of Values and link them to MOTIVATION
We will be asking questions like
“Why do I get so excited about some things and not others?”
“How can I get more motivated to do the things I should do, but do not really want to?”
“How can I increase the motivation I have got, so I can achieve more “
“Where the heck did my Mojo go?”
As usual we will use discussion, learning and exercises to deepen our understanding of ourselves, but this week I will be introducing some NLP techniques, which will be optional.
By the end of the workshop you will understand and recognise how your values affect your passions and, and be able to increase your motivation not only to do the things you want to do with more energy, but also the tasks that you have to do.
See you there, Caroline
The Personal Development Cafe is both for those people new to personal development and for those already exploring coaching and neuro linguistic programing (nlp). The café sessions are designed to be informative, stimulating and compliment other Personal Development Circle North East’ workshops.
“If I have the belief that I can do it, I shall surely acquire the capacity to do it even if I may not have it at the beginning.” Gandhi
As a member of the Personal Development Cafe part you will:
– Discover the benefits of using personal development techniques
– Learn tools for confidence, motivation & the power of your mind
– Gain an understanding of the science and behind personal development
– Feel motivated and supported by the group
– Progress to become the person you want to become
Café sessions are monthly and run for 2 hours. In a relaxed and informal setting the sessions will start with a coffee followed by “some food for thought” – an informative and stimulating talk. Then it’s time for “café chatter” to open up discussion. We finish with some “clearing up” and self-reflection which is for your eyes only.
You are welcome to “drop in” on individual café sessions, but you may find benefit from regular attendance.
No matter what your goals and dreams may be or at what level you are to achieving them. With consistent motivation, a deeper understanding of the power of your mind, good clear teaching, and a friendly group of people behind you, you will gain a deeper understanding and belief in yourself from which change will naturally develop.

March 8th Start thinking right
Start right thinking
There’s a battle going on in our minds, a daily conversation with ourselves which if it’s going well, can make our day and if it not well “I might as well not even bother !!!!” (does this sound familiar?)
The true fact is that our bodies and behaviours are affected by the way we think. We think in patterns that develop habits, our brain remembers these habits and like a well-worn path, they are stored in the neurology of the brain.
More often than not we talk down to ourselves, talk ourselves out of things and limit our opportunities before that have even entered the room. When was the last time you told yourself how amazing you are?
The good news is that our brain can learn a new path, and the more often we choose a better path the more worn it becomes until it becomes a new path of better thinking.
So in this session we are going to explore a little bit about how the brain works, the physical effects of both positive and negative self-talk and write ourselves some affirmations to take home, so we can start the day on the right path.

Goals Goals Goals
The secret to success often rests with setting great goals … but why should we set goals?
We spend so much of time thinking about what is happening in our life – good and bad – and often wanting things to be changed but not sure what we want instead. Whatever aspect of our lives it is (family / friendships / career / wellbeing / money etc) there is something that we would want to change.
So how does change start? Well a good place is in setting goals!
There are many benefits of goal setting.
Taking Control
Goals are like having an in-built Sat Nav – your goals will take to in a direction you have chosen and for which you want to go. Setting goals is about articulating your vision (whether in words, pictures, symbols or a combination of). Your vision will take you on a path to reality and when you have achieved the goal, you improve your life and become a better version of yourself – your confidence and self esteem will increase as you appreciate and acknowledge your achievements.
Focusing on the important things
When you set goals you are sorting out your priorities – deciding what is most important to you and what can wait. By focusing your time and efforts on what you want to achieve you are more likely to achieve your goals.
You will make reasoned decisions
Once your Goals have been identified when opportunties come along you are more likely to make the right decisions in line with your goals and medium / long term plans.
You are more likely to achieve you goal sooner
If you remain focused on your goals and keep them in mind. You will have a focused approach to life and are more likely to concentrate your time, finances and energy with less likelihood in being distracted.
Be confident, be enthusiastic
When you set goals they need to be specific so you can measure your progress. As you near your goal and monitor your profess this will improve your confidence, keep you motivated and enthusiastic about achieving the final stage which marks your success.
Making progress
Each time you achieved one goal, you will want to set more goals in the knowledge you can get there. Subsequent goals are often harder to achieve and require more effort. As you have achieved some goals there is no reason why you cannot go on to bigger and better things with higher goals.
You are closer to success
Every step you take towards your goals is a step nearer to success.
Remember to reward your efforts along the way.
How to set goals
This is easy. Setting goals that motivate and inspire you to achieve is a tad harder. Come along to our Coaching Cafe Goals workshop – set some compelling goals and start on your journey to success.
In the Coaching Club workshop I will take you through the art of setting goals, identify which goals are key to your personal success right now.
To procrastinate or not to procrastinate
Procrastination can destroy your dreams, before you know it time has passed you by and all of those hopes, dreams and goals have fallen by the wayside. When that happens it is easy to regret what has happened, to blame yourself and others for the lack of progress or achievement.
The thing with procrastination is that it grabs you tightly with both hands and holds on without you even realising it. It holds you back and before you know it days, weeks and months pass you by as have many opportunities that came your way and it is too late to follow up.
How much has procrastination cost your or your business? I am not just talking about money. I am talking about opportunites that you have not taken up, relationships that have fallen by the wayside, people who you know have moved on to more attentive friends or partners.
It will happen again and again until you learn how to deal with procrastination. You need to understand how it takes a grip and how you cann cast it aside, ready to change, motivated and excited about new opportunities.
What will you no longer accept in your life?
Are you ready to change?
Are you committed to change?
What will you do? You can stay where you are right now or learn how to motivate and excel yourself for a bigger brighter future.

Getting back on track.
Ever felt that you are running around in circles, no clear vision of where you are going or how you will get there? Were you wasting all your energy? Did you get annoyed with yourself? Start throwing your toys out the pram with frustration? Whether it is your personal life or running your business the emotions can be very similar.
Running your business, especially in the early days, can see you using up all your spare cash and resources, drain your mental energy, and run away with your time.
It is easy to get absorbed in what is going wrong with the situation, blame others, run around aimlessly for anything and everything that may help. The thing is that we only know so much and the answers may be outside our consciousness although we may well have the resources required to resolve the situation we are in.
A great resource is to work with a coach who will help you identify what the key challenges are, what resources you may have that have not been utilised yet, and prepare an action plan to get you working smarter to resolve matters. Working with a coach is like having a compass showing you the way to your destination. Your coach will keep you focused and on track. If you get stuck then help is at hand to take stock and reassess the situation to identify the next key steps to get you where you want to be either by the original route you chose or by identifying an alternative route.
In life as in business there are so many decision to make, options to cosider, distractions on our time and focus. Having said that you can be successful, just find your way with the help and support of a coach.
Contact Newcastle Performance Coaching to book your coaching session in which we will work together to identify the key strategies which will kick you off on your path to personal or business success. The investment for the first session is only £47 with no obligation to take further sessions. Contact me for further information.
Staying motivated.
